Founded by Sven Väth, Matthias Martinsohn and Michael Münzingthe OMEN was one of the first clubs in the world to consistently and programmatically promote itself through Sven Väth focussed on electronic music. A new sound developed here, which made Frankfurt the
motor of a global movement.

When the OMEN opened in October 1989, the Berlin Wall came down just three weeks later - a symbol of a new beginning and change that also affected club culture. The DJ became an artist, music became a way of life and the club became a place of self-discovery and freedom.

New, unheard sounds electrified the dancing guests. In the midst of fog, cigarette smoke and heat, an almost tropical atmosphere was created - sometimes even condensation dripped from the ceiling. This physical intensity turned the OMEN into a place where music was immediately transformed into energy.

The exhibition "OMEN Club Frankfurt 1988-1998 - New Electronic Ecstasy" shows about 100 photographs, films, flyers and original objects from this period. Among other things, you can see one of the first Thorens turntablean original Rodec mixing console from the OMEN and the iconic wall-sized
Illustrations by the artists Stellmacher & Jensenthat once adorned the club room.

The curatorial team - Sascha Luond, Ingo Boss, Dr Torben Giese and Alex Azary - brings together material from professional archives and private collections. Particularly impressive are unpublished video recordings of Pit Weberthat show what goes on at the club both in front of and behind the scenes.

In a video installation, key players, DJs and companions - including Matthias Martinsohn, Karlheinz Sondergeld, Pauli Steinbach, Dag Lerner, Frank Lorber and Toni Rios - of nights that were more than just parties: an expression of a new cultural awareness.

The OMEN was more than just a club. It was a place of renewal - a symbol of new beginnings,
whose energy can still be felt in music, fashion and culture today.
