ITALO DISCO - Never Stop Dancing!
As part of Italy's Guest of Honour appearance at Frankfurter Buchmesse 2024, MOMEM - Museum of Modern Electronic Music - is presenting a tribute to Italy's rich musical tradition with the exhibition:
"ITALO DISCO - Never Stop Dancing!"
From 11 October 2024 to 2 April 2025, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Italo disco and experience the formative influence of Italian artists on global electronic music.
Italo disco was not just a sound of the 1980s - striking synthesisers, sugar-sweet string arrangements and futuristic beats defined a unique genre.
While classics such as "Self Control" and "Another Life" conquered the international charts, the club versions were omnipresent in legendary Italian mega discos. The exhibition sheds light on how Italo disco influenced Chicago's house music scene and is still present on dance floors around the world today.
Contemporary DJs such as Gerd Janson, Purple Disco Machine and Mochakk continue the Italo Disco revival, while labels such as Bordello A Parigi regularly release new tracks in the iconic style - making Italo Disco more relevant than ever!
The exhibition focuses on iconic tracks, artists such as Ryan Paris, Sabrina Salerno, RAF and the ongoing influence of the genre - for example through the German producer Philipp Lauer. Discover the exciting history of the clubs, labels and music legends that made Italo disco an international phenomenon.
