Das MOMEM ist kein Museum. Kein Museum im klassischen Sinne.
Es ist ein Kunst- und Kulturzentrum, ein Ort im Hier und Jetzt. Ein Erlebnis, welches für vielerlei elektronische Lebensaspekte sensibilisiert:
Klang, Mode, Instrumente, Apps, Klubkultur, Räumlichkeiten, mediale Surroundings, Interaktion.
Vieles davon entsteht und entstand aus der Musik. Elektronische Musik. Eine Reise von den Anfängen über das Heute bis in die Zukunft. Und in die internationalen Orte des Geschehens. Den Mittelpunkt bildet Frankfurt.

TANGERINE DREam: Zeitraffer
Tangerine Dream gehören zu den einflussreichsten deutschen Bands und prägten die elektronische Musik, besonders „Ambient“ und „Trance“. Ab 7. April 2025 widmet das MOMEM der Band die Ausstellung
Tangerine Dream: Zeitraffer
die ihre 58-jährige Geschichte beleuchtet. Gegründet 1967 in West-Berlin, blieb die Band auch nach dem Tod ihres Gründers Edgar Froese 2015 aktiv.
Tangerine Dream veröffentlichten über 160 Alben, von Electronic Meditation (1970) bis Raum und Sessions mit der aktuellen Besetzung. 1973 nahm Virgin Records sie unter Vertrag. Phaedra wurde ihr erstes rein elektronisches Album und markierte den Beginn einer produktiven Phase mit Werken wie Rubycon und Force Majeure.
Sie komponierten auch Filmmusik, u.a. für Tatort. Die Ausstellung zeigt Dokumente, Fotos, Original- Instrumente und rare Bildaufnahmen. Sie basiert auf einer Präsentation im Londoner Barbican Center (2020) und wurde für das MOMEM erweitert.
Ein Rahmenprogramm mit Lesungen, Vorträgen und Filmen ist geplant.

Electronic Classroom
im Eintrittspreis enthalten | Reservierungen möglich
Der Electronic Classroom versteht sich als leichteste und intuitivste Annäherung an die elektronische Musik, die in Gruppen gemeinsam erlebt werden kann.
Insgesamt 5 sogenannte Dawless Setups – es wird auf den Einsatz einer Digital Working Station (DAW) in Form eines Computers verzichtet – stehen jeweils 5 Lernenden zur Verfügung. Jedes der Setups umfasst einen Mixer “the t.mix mix 802” von thomann, zwei Synthesizer, einen Sampler und einen Drumcomputer. Verbunden werden die Geräte auch MIDI- und Audio-Kabel der Unternehmen thomann und adam hall.
Ab sofort ist der Electronic Classroom als Teil des Museumsbesuchs für alle Besuchenden frei zugänglich und nutzbar.

Finally we dance all together to celebrate the grand opening of the MOMEM to the sounds of the one and only Sven Väth. The Frankfurt Hauptwache will change oneself to a huge dancefloor and nobody can stop us on this very special night.

Starting in the late 1980s electronic music has emerged as a driving force in club music and modern life. Electronic music connects the past, the present and the future like no other cultural movement and constantly reinvents itself. The achievements of modern electronic music influenced the music industry and music production as well as art, design, fashion and people’s lifestyle. Since the beginning of this development a rich and diverse culture has established itself far beyond the musical content. Today electronic music unifies people all around the world – connecting, dancing and loving each other because of a peaceful human technology and art form. We are here to share parts of the history and save stories of this movement and phenomenon with you.

Fela Kuti from Lagos is known to be one of the inventors of the Afrobeat and established the idea of repetitive dance music. Earl Young was the drummer of the most epic Philadelphia Sound recordings. As one of the first mentioned artists he had the idea of the four to the floor“ beat kicking it in with his bass drum. Years later club DJs like Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles came up with the idea of a new dance music called House merging disco, wave and early electronic music creating mix friendly club tunes. To many Frankie Knuckles is regarded as the Godfather of House”.

A place of continuous movement and transformation, turning from a museum into a stage into a bar into an academy and back again. A vital environment in the heart of Frankfurt and a museum that encourages everybody to participate and interact.
